Miss Earth Bosnia & Herzegovina 2020 | Amina Hasanabegovic

Miss Earth Bosnia & Herzegovina 2020 | Amina Hasanabegovic

BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA

AMINA HASANBEGOVIC

Age: 20

Height: 172 cm

Measurements: 33 in - 25 in - 35 in

"I speak 4 languages. I invest in education and that is my priority in life. I finished high school and am currently studying at the Faculty of Political Sciences. My wish is to work as a teacher in order to pass on my knowledge to other generations."

DESCRIBE YOUR CHILDHOOD/GROWING YEARS

I had a very happy and exciting childhood. I was a very interesting and restless child. I made some new mischief every day. I have 2 older brothers and an older sister so I was always a little spoiled little girl. As far as I know for myself I have been singing so I have performed at various shows and competitions where I have won awards.

WHAT IS YOUR MEMORABLE MOMENT?

My memorable moment was when I came to school the first day and the school direcor asked me if I knew anything about education. I could neither read nor write nor draw I only knew how to sing. At the school I went to, my father works as a teacher. And then when I said I could only sing I was played on a loudspeaker throughout the school. My father ruined the country. it was a very fun moment in my childhood.

ANY SPECIAL STORIES OR FACTS ABOUT YOUR FAMILY?

I come from a calm and educated family. My sister has a master’s degree in economics, both brothers have a master’s degree in electrical engineering. My father works as a professor and my mother has dedicated her whole life to our upbringing and care for us. I can freely say that I am grateful to my family for all the successes I have made.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE?

By the way, I really like challenges and some extreme things. I love surprises and I really enjoy them. I love when someone prepares them for me and I for someone. There are a lot of things that I would put under the unusual and I did, but I will win that which I know. And as a child of 11 years I knew how to drive. I was driving over 100km and after 3 hours of driving I was stopped by the police. I made a terrible problem for myself and my family, but it's all part of growing up.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVOCACY?

I advocate for love. I love to love and I love being loved. I find that people who can’t find love and good qualities in themselves can’t look for them in anyone else either. We need to be the change we want to see in the world. If we start by cleansing ourselves and making ourselves a better person, then the world will be a better place to live.

WHAT TIPS CAN YOU SHARE TO PROMOTE ECOTOURISM & CLIMATE CHANGE?

I think we need to work primarily on raising our children. To appeal to parents to raise awareness of environmental protection for their children so that tomorrow they can do the same and apply it. Every tree planted is a new life. Why destroy them if we all benefit from them. By cleaning parks and public places, using filters in cars and factories, we will protect the environment. Let's make the planet a better place to live.

WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD OF YOUR COUNTRY?

The 1984 Olympic Games were held in my hometown, the capital of BiH, Sarajevo. Last year, the Winter Olympic Games for young people were held. We never did anything wrong to anyone. Moreover, during the 1992-1995 war, genocide was committed in several BiH cities. We have always voted for a truce and fought for peace not only in our country but in the whole world.

WHAT CAN YOU PROMOTE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY?

What I have done so far and what I will continue to promote about my country are the natural beauties that my country has at its disposal. We have many natural lakes, rivers, mountains, forests, sea and many other beauties.

WHAT TRIVIA ABOUT YOURSELF WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE?

I am a very optimistic person. I find someone good in every evil and I am sure that everything that happens in life happens for a reason.

VALENTINA PEREZ MEDINA

Age: 23

Height: 175 cm

Measurements: 34.6 in - 27 in - 35.5 in

"I want to share my charisma and my empathy. Because it is something that our world today has forgotten and put aside. A beauty queen must be an "influencer" of love and respect; we must motivate young people to get involved in social work."

DESCRIBE YOUR CHILDHOOD/GROWING YEARS

My childhood was amazing. I was raised by my grandfathers and mother. They thought me to be a fighter and a brave person. All I am today is because of them; they gave me life lessons, moral knowledge, sense of justice and over all love.

WHAT IS YOUR MEMORABLE MOMENT?

I had many memorable moments, but the most important and the one I will always remember is the moment when I heard my name as the Miss Bolivia winner. It was one of my childhood dreams. After all my effort and hard work I made my dream become a reality. I cannot explain all the pride and happiness I felt in that moment.

ANY SPECIAL STORIES OR FACTS ABOUT YOUR FAMILY?

My mother is a fighter. She was a victim of domestic violence, even when she was sad or beaten she never stop fighting and giving love to me and my family. At that moment I had two options: cry or support my mother and help her to confront the problem and the abuser. I chose the second option… After this incident I realized how strong my mother and my family is and we became more united than ever.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE?

When I was at Miss International Contest I had the opportunity to try their gastronomy, they have strange dishes I made the most of my time there and I ate the strangest foods I saw. One I remember in Natto.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVOCACY?

My advocacy has always been helping other people and animals, since my teenage years I felt attracted to social work. I find joy in helping. There is nothing more gratifying than helping other people and animals.

WHAT TIPS CAN YOU SHARE TO PROMOTE ECOTOURISM & CLIMATE CHANGE?

Bolivia is one of the most bio diverse countries in the world. We have valleys, jungles, deserts, and the biggest salt flat in the world, the highest and deepest lake in the world providing incredible landscapes and diversity of flora and fauna. We should promote and show the world what Bolivia has. Also, we have to invest in highways and transport methods that don’t affect the vegetation, education and preservation of the earth to make a sustainable tourism chain.

WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD OF YOUR COUNTRY?

I am proud to be Bolivian because my country is multi-ethnic and multicultural. We have on one side, the Amazon with jungles and tropical forests, and on the other, we have the Altiplano with lakes, deserts, mountains and our incredible Salar de Uyuni. We are hard-working people, fighters and of faith. We have demonstrated more than once our union as a country, that defines “unity and courage” for Bolivians.

WHAT CAN YOU PROMOTE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY?

My country has a lot of diversity of cultures and tourist places. We have the Bolivian Amazon with warm climate and tropical landscapes; we also have the plateau where we can find Lake Titicaca, huge hills such as Cerro Rico de Potosi, Illimani and our majestic Salar de Uyuni. The gastronomy of Bolivia is so diverse and delicious that all the people that tries them makes Bolivian food one of their top favorite foods. That is why I would like to promote our diversity and multiculturalism in my country.

WHAT TRIVIA ABOUT YOURSELF WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE?

I would like to show my passion for helping others, for creating and being part of campaigns that help others and our environment. It is something that is part of me, it would not be me without being part of a humanitarian and social aid, and I want to encourage more young people to be encouraged to contribute their grain of sand to the world through good actions.

The most unusual thing that I have ever done is: indoor skydiving with the organization of Miss Exclusive. It was fun and scary but I’m glad I did it.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVOCACY?
My advocacy is to spread awareness to reduce plastics! Plastic is still a big issue. I believe that there are plenty alternatives for plastics but we don’t adapt them into our daily life. That’s why we should start using the alternatives now! Instead of using a plastic straw just use a bamboo straw. Or if you go to the grocery store bring your own eco bag! If we make this the new normal it will have an big difference for our environment. Our Earth will become more greener and plastic free.

WHAT TIPS CAN YOU SHARE TO PROMOTE ECOTOURISM & CLIMATE CHANGE?

One of the most beautiful spots in Belgium is Dinant it is located in the southeast of the country. When you visit Dinant you must go see the Grotte La Merveilleusie, it’s a cave with a lot of halls. Inside the cave you will find a waterfall surrounded by colorful rock curtains.

I am proud to be half Belgian and half Filipina.

Measurements: 33.8 in - 23.6 in - 33.8 in

"I should be the next Miss Earth because I believe if I have a proper platform I can actually make some difference."

DESCRIBE YOUR CHILDHOOD/GROWING YEARS
I moved to Russia from Belarus when I was little, and at that point I attended school. I had a great family and was going to multiple sections and classes. At the age of 8 I broke few bones in my spine and I stayed at the hospital for a while and didn’t attend school for a year or so. That is when my passion for reading reached a new level and I became obsessed with books. Few years later as I fully recovered. I went to the race track for the first time, and since then I started racing go karts. I was one of only two girls and competed with boys. Later, I became the only girl there and I competed ever since until I went to New Zealand.

WHAT IS YOUR MEMORABLE MOMENT?
My memorable moment is during New Years with all of my family before my great-grandmother died.

ANY SPECIAL STORIES OR FACTS ABOUT YOUR FAMILY?
My grandfather watched Formula 1 and Top Gear so that is how I became a fan of cars myself. I am very close with my grandparents and we do a lot of stuff together. I love watching Star Track with them or going on a road trip. My great-grandmother taught me how to walk and talk. She was an amazing human, the kindest I know.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE?
The most unusual thing I’ve ever done is live by myself since I was 16 and travelled multiple counties alone.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVOCACY?
My advocacy is about standing up for the weaker ones, promoting anti-bullying and self-love. That includes awareness of the harm that other people do to our planet and educating people about the harm they doing. I am strongly against littering.

WHAT TIPS CAN YOU SHARE TO PROMOTE ECOTOURISM & CLIMATE CHANGE?
I would love for more people to travel to Belarus and see how beautiful this country is. I believe that if local people see how much tourists appreciate our nature, they will learn to love it more. I also believe that social media is a great platform to generate some interest, educate and show people how we are destroying, but also preserving, some of the most beautiful places on Earth. I want to educate more people about the importance of caring about our planet because I believe that it is responsibility of a humankind to preserve what is around us and I think the interest around Greta Thunberg is a great example of how, in a modern world with social media, it’s easier to raise awareness and make more people think about climate change.

WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD OF YOUR COUNTRY?
Belarus is a beautiful, amazing country with the kindest people with a lot to know about world. It’s People are what makes me proud.

WHAT CAN YOU PROMOTE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY?
I would like to promote Braslav Lake Area, Minsk Sea and the Chalk Pits (our Maldives) in Belarus.

Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020 | Meghna Alam

Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020 | Meghna Alam

MEGHNA ALAM

Age: 25

Height: 165 cm

Measurements: 34 in - 27 in - 36 in

"I may not be tall but I stand tall for all the women of the world. Because women, in general, have to be rule breakers, to be change-makers to make their voices heard and their footprints implanted in society."

DESCRIBE YOUR CHILDHOOD/GROWING YEARS
I grew up as the daughter of a farmer’s leader. My father never had the time or luxury to take me to a fantasy park or a children’s fair. My memories of spending time with my father as a kid consists of attending workshops, seminars, human chains for various environmental causes holding his hands from the age of 10. From that age, I started working as a translator to connect the farmers from various countries. While translating for others, I learned to express, to acquire knowledge, and to connect with different kinds of people consciously.

WHAT IS YOUR MEMORABLE MOMENT?
One of the memorable moments of my life is when my youngest sister was born and her tiny little fingers wrapped around mine. She was the 4th daughter in the family and the society expected to see regret in our eyes on the birth of another daughter. Her birth had started a revolution in me that love is all we need to overcome social stigmas.

ANY SPECIAL STORIES OR FACTS ABOUT YOUR FAMILY?
One of the most special facts about my family is that we are four sisters. Four of us went to the same school, one of the most prestigious ones in Bangladesh based on merit securing scholarships. In a patriarchal society where you are constantly reminded that not having a brother makes you weaker, your knowledge becomes your weapon to fight back. That is the essence of being a part of my family.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL THING YOU HAVE EVER DONE?
I think one of the most unusual things I have done in my entire life is being unstoppable. I have had several crisis, my father falling sick and my family going through a financial turmoil leading to a huge gap in my studies. I was on the verge of getting depressed, isolated by relatives, and swamped by poverty. But even at my worst days, I got up, dressed up, kept a smile on my face, and won many battles that empowered me to return to my studies with a full scholarship and to earn enough to support my family.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVOCACY?
My advocacy is to fight against climate change by reducing plastic production globally. I would actively engage myself in creating a digital platform for women to sell various recycled products targeting climate-conscious consumers. It would sensitize people about climate change while empowering women simultaneously. It is a process of looking for a solution while giving a voice to the women of our society.

WHAT TIPS CAN YOU SHARE TO PROMOTE ECOTOURISM & CLIMATE CHANGE?
To promote eco-tourism and climate change, my tip would be to include and acknowledge the voices of the grassroots who are most impacted by the effects of climate change such as farmers, peasants, and the landless people, who live in the most delicate situations. We must bring them together with the civil society organizations so that we can have a continuous dialogue, shared resources, and a space for accountability of our ideas and actions.

WHAT MAKES YOU PROUD OF YOUR COUNTRY?
What makes me proud of my country is the resilience of the people here against all odds. Every year, the people of my country re-emerge, re-organize, and re-model it to find and practice the best climate adaptation practices. This is because Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, and it is prone to natural disasters like flooding, droughts, etc. even though their contribution to carbon emission and plastic production is negligible.

WHAT CAN YOU PROMOTE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY?
I would promote The Sundarbans, one of the largest mangrove forests in the world that saves Bangladesh from any harm like a guardian angel. It reduces the speed of wind during cyclones. It ensures the biodiversity and livelihood of people in the region. I think it deserves a lot of attention internationally so that countries in the world can start valuing and conserving the forests of their own.

WHAT TRIVIA ABOUT YOURSELF WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE?
The trivia about myself that I would like to share is that I am a protagonist in personality tests that comprises only 2 percent of the entire population in the world. I believe in the power of action over words. When I give someone my word, I stand by it no matter what.
